1. Can a diode laser cut metal?
Most diode lasers (20W+) engrave stainless steel but cannot cut through it. To cut metal you need a fiber laser.

Professional laser engraving rates in Europe range from €15 to €50/hour depending on country and project complexity.
If you buy a 600×400mm plywood sheet for €6 and cut a 20×20mm project, you use just 0.17% of the sheet. Our calculator does this automatically.
A diode laser module has a lifespan of ~10,000 hours. Add €5–15/h as a sinking fund for servicing and electricity.

Diode lasers: cheaper (from €300), compact, great for wood and leather. CO2 lasers: cut all acrylic colors, but start at €2000+.
Never cut: PVC/vinyl (toxic chlorine), chrome-tanned leather, ABS plastic, polycarbonate, carbon fiber. Always use Air Assist and ventilation.
Lack of Air Assist or feed rate too slow. Also check the lens – smoke residue reduces laser power by 30–50%. Clean with isopropyl alcohol.
